Frequently Asked Questions
What are the requirements needed in order to register for Swim School?
For our Splash Program, participating children must be 3 years of age or older and potty-trained. For our Stroke Program, participating children must be 5 years of age or older. You can find our Swim School levels at peninsulacommunitycenter.com/swimschool/levels.
How do I pick what level to register my swimmer for?
Please register your swimmer for the level that most accurately describes their ability level. The skills listed under objectives are the goals for the class and need to be met in order to advance to the next level. If you are unsure of your swimmer’s level, we suggest enrolling in the lower level class as a starting point. Our Swim School levels can be found at peninsulacommunitycenter.com/swimschool/levels.
What is Jackrabbit? If I have a profile with PCC already, can I use that?
Jackrabbit is our new registration platform for Swim School. This new system will help improve both user and admin experiences. All families will need to create a new account with Jackrabbit, regardless of whether you currently have a PCC profile. Please note that Jackrabbit is a separate platform from PCC’s member portal.
How many lessons are in a Swim School session? How long are they?
Each session includes 4 lessons (25-minutes each). During the spring, it is four consecutive weekends. During the summer, lessons are Monday through Thursday. The dates for the session are set ahead of time and are not moveable.
How many swimmers are in each Swim School lesson?
Our Swim School lessons are semi-private, which means there are 2 kids per 1 instructor.
My child is registered for PCC Summer Camp. Can they join Swim School for lessons during camp?
Yes! If your child is a registered summer camp participant, they can register for summer Swim School lessons during their camp time for 15% off. To qualify, Swim School lessons must be booked for the same week your child is enrolled at camp and during select times within the summer camp hours. Please visit the summer camp webpage for more information at wearepcc.com/summercamp.
What do I need to bring to the Swim School lessons? Can I bring floaties?
Please bring a swimsuit, goggles and a towel. We have goggles available for purchase should you need to purchase a pair. We do not sell swimsuits at this time. Please note, we do not allow our swimmers to wear floatation devices, such as life vests or water wings during their lesson.
How should I prepare for Swim School lessons?
In order to start the lesson promptly, please have your swimmer ready in their swimsuit five minutes prior to the lesson start time. This includes having your swimmer use the restroom ahead of time and applying sunscreen 15 minutes prior. Please note, although rash guards protect from the sun they do not insulate well and may cause the swimmer to be colder.
Are guardians allowed to get in the water with their swimmer?
We do not allow parents and/or guardians in the water for the lessons.
Where should I wait during the lesson?
We require parents/guardians to remain at Peninsula Community Center for the duration of the 25-minute class. We ask that you leave a buffer zone of at least 20 feet between you and your swimmer’s lesson. This preserves the quality of the lesson and allows the instructor to earn the trust of your student and the other student in the class. If your swimmer is reluctant, we may suggest you wait in the lobby.
